It is an unfortunate fact that Expansion Packs tend to be a disappointment when compared to the original, or to feel like a rip off, so when this expansion pack to Supreme Ruler 2020 was announced, I met the announcement with apprehension and a little bit of worry, after all I had quite liked the original game and given it a very respectable 74% on this website last year. Global Crisis features 20 new scenarios to play which is quite an amazing amount when you consider that is more than came with the original game. Each of these scenarios is accessed through the main hub of the game and highlights a specific country and their defensive or offensive tactics in this future world. Because these are specific objectives it actually makes the game a little more cohesion then before as the original title was very open world. This may or may not be a good thing depending on your point of view and the type of game that you like. There are also some new multiplayer scenarios for you and online friends to play. The only problem being that of course, they will have had to buy this expansion pack as well in order to play. The second thing that has been done with the expansion pack is an improvement to the technology tree, not only in an attempt to make it slightly less confusing but also adding over a hundred new technological items for you to research and use. You can if you wish, if you still find it confusing, allow one of the computer controlled ministers look after this aspect of the game. The final main difference with this expansion pack is that there is a definite improvement with the AI of the opposition. The decisions that they make do not seem to be as strange and it has actually made the game a much harder and improved experience. Having said that if you disliked the original then I don’t think this is going to make you change your mind. It still takes a lot of thought and it is still not a game you are going to play in just an hour etc. However there is a great deal of satisfaction to be had from the title when everything goes well and you actually win a scenario. This is because nothing in the game is done without effort and there is no immediate satisfaction to be had. Graphically there is little improvement since the original game with the only obvious differences being a little more clarity to the hub and the text screens. Sound wise there are definite songs for each of the individual countries and it will be up to the individual gamer whether you switch this off or not. So overall as with the original, if you are a strategy fan, especially a military strategy fan than you will find this game a delight. It is still not a game for a novice but for anyone who has played this type of game before and enjoyed them, and has to time to play them then this is a solid game and a very enjoyable experience as well as being one of the best value for money expansion packs seen in years.
