This game starts out like many other games in the world of the mushroom kingdom. Bowser gets delusions of grandeur and decides to attack his old foes the Mario Bros. He gets hands on the "Vibe Scepter" and sends his minions to invade the mushroom kingdom. They succeed in capturing Mario, Luigi, and Toad. Thus setting the stage for Princess Peach and her companion Perry to save the day. The graphics are reminicent of an SNES classic. The top screen displays the platforming and the bottom screen is a picture of the princess and her different powers. The brightness and cheeriness of the title shines very thorougly in the artwork of this title. While playing this game you really feel the emotions that permeate from all of the characters and art showcases that in creative and fun ways. The sound on this title is also very light-hearted and fun. The best way to describe it is a Mario theme with more flair. The sound effects come through crisply and keep you engrossed in the experience. Overall, I would say that the audio portion of the game keeps with Nintendo's high standards for their games. The game plays a lot like the other Mario games where you can jump on enemies heads to defeat them. This game has many of the typical Mario enemies with a twist they are all ruled by their emotions, just as Peach is. Peach's parasol, Perry, is used in many different ways in the game. He can be used as a weapon to smack those pesky goombas, or as a sheild so that some of the enemies attacks will not harm you. Also, he can be used to pick up and throw the enemies or you can actually pick them up and use them to refill the Peach's "Vibe Meter". The Vibe Meter is a new twist to the formula which may be filled with either crystals you find, or if no crystals are handy you can use an enemy. Once you have some power saved up in the Vibe Meter you can use one of Peach's 4 emotions. The first is Joy, which can be used to fly or blow away fog. Gloom, makes Peach cry, which can be used to water sprouts, put out fires, make ice, and also she runs faster while in tears. Rage is used to burn bridges and melt ice. Calm is used to refill Peach's HP. On a side note, the gameplay is fairly balanced for the genre. The things that will come you coming back for more are mini games, puzzles, and music which are hidden throughout the levels. You can tell when one of the bonus items are nearby when the expression on Peach's face changes. The minigames are unlocked after you defeat the boss of each level and there are more to unlock once you beat the game and go back through the three bonus stages that are opened in each level after defeating Bowser the first time around. The game also is only defeated after a second play through. So, in order to unlock everything in the game you need to play through the story twice. I recomend this game to anyone who likes old school SNES platformers with a bit of a twist. This a also a purchase for any who loves Nintendo, because the game is filled with Nintendo charm. I would also reccomend this game to anyone who wants to get a female gamer a title. Lastly I would tell anyone that likes their game with a little (purposely or not) innuendo, this game could give then a few chuckles.
